Under the auspices of the Kiama Lions Club Inc., this venture has been established to do two things: produce full cast audio (radio play) adaptations of children's classics, and by marketing these productions worldwide on CD to raise money for charities that provide services for children who are visually handicapped or disadvantaged in some way.
The scripts, acting and production talents are all given to the project free of charge by everyone involved. As a result, apart from the few dollars a copy spent on duplicating the CDs all the income from sales can be donated to the chosen charities.
The first two titles, currently in production, are:
- The Adventures of Blinky Bill adapted from the novels of Dorothy Wall
- This delightful Australian classic children's story about the adventures of
a naughty koala - Blinky - has given pleasure to many thousands of young
children since it was written over 70 years ago. It is perfect listening for
pre-school and lower primary school children. The 2 CD set is tracked so
that each section lasts for only about 10 minutes and can be easily found.
- The Story of Dr Dolittle adapted from the novels of Hugh Lofting
- One of the best-loved English children's classics in the same class as
the immortal Wind in the Willows, Dr Dolittle has been filmed but never
dramatised for radio (audio). This full cast production is on a 2 CD set
with each 10 minute section tracked so that it can be easily found.
Both titles will be available internationally in September 2010 from your usual audio book and/or DVD and CD supplier.
Although the works of Hugh Lofting and Dorothy Wall are in the public domain, the adaptations and productions described above are copyright The Lions Club of Kiama Inc.
Requests to broadcast the productions or to reproduce copies for charitable purposes should be sent to ken.methold@gmail.com
